ARE WE TAKING SUBMISSIONS?

It's interesting. One aspect of publishing a magazine I didn't count on has been the number of people who've inquired about our "submissions policy & guidelines." Comiculture #1 shipped just the other day and I've already received a couple of emails. Oddly, neither of the letters commented on the magazine or it's contents. Both were from aspiring creators looking to be published. At Wizard World Chicago and the San Diego's Comic Con International (last weekend), we encountered a similar situation. Sometimes the artist in question would listen politely to our own sales pitch before launching into their own. Sometimes they bought the magazine--often, they did not. A few people just came up and handed us submissions without even looking at what kind of products we were producing!

I guess I shouldn't be surprised, there IS a lot of competition out there. In the case of the two emailers, I assume they actually picked up the magazine and I'm flattered that they want to be involved.

Well, before I get flooded with more letters that all ask the same thing, I'd better deal with the question right now. ARE WE ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS TODAY? The answer is: NOT EXACTLY.

A bit vague, yes, but let me explain something about Comiculture.

Comiculture is produced by a pretty closely knit group of comics pros. We are working for FREE, funding the project ourselves, and supporting it with a lot of our own precious time, sweat and love.

WILL WE BE ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS IN THE FUTURE? The answer to that, is up to YOU, the readers. Today, Comiculture is pure ambition. This is what I want to do for a living: publish my own work, and the work of creators I respect. If Comiculture succeeds, we will be publishing more frequently than four times a year. I'd love to be able to go bimonthly or monthly. If that happens, I'll be BEGGING everyone around me for good content! Meanwhile, we have the next few issues pretty well planned, and sad to say, if the magazine doesn't catch on, this project will be little more than a really, REALLY expensive hobby!

Please do not send unsolicited submissions at this time. Frankly, we're a small operation and don't have a whole lot of time to review them now anyway. We're spending all our available time trying to find ways to make Comiculture succeed. And on that note, I ask again, ever humbly, for your support. Please spread the word, and one day soon, perhaps we can extend the Comiculture family of creators to include some of you.
